ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box

The ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box is one of the only self maintaining litter boxes out there which you can set and forget about it for weeks at a time (depending on frequency of use). Using disposable litter trays, rather then messy scoops or other methods of removing old litter, it is a great option for those who are looking for an easy, no fuss way of caring for their cat’s litter. All you need to do is swap out the disposable trays as needed and you are good to go! No further work will be needed and there is absolutely no reason to handle the dirty litter or mess. Furthermore, the covered waste trap ensures you don’t need to smell, touch or see the waste left behind by your cats.

Product Features:

  • Uses Disposable litter trays, which means no hand contact with the litter or any waste.
  • Sophisticated sensors which automatically detect your cat entering and exiting the litter box, to set the 20 minute rake timer.
  • Rake system sweeps away all waste material, no handling or scooping required.
  • Tested to run over 100,000 cycles without a jam.
  • One year limited product warranty

Optional additional features: A privacy hood and anti tracking carpet (available separately).

So How Does It Work?

The ScoopFree Self Cleaning Litter box is really simple to use: You insert one of the disposable litter trays (with blue crystal litter) into the litter box. Then you simply leave it, and when you cat uses it, the raking system will automatically remove the waste material. It will then store this waste in a covered waste trap until you are ready to swap out the trays.

The litter will remain fresh smelling and clean even after several uses, and with the waste safely locked away in the waste trap you wont have to see or smell it, or have it tracked around through your house whenever your cat uses the litter box again.

Do I need to do any maintenance on the ScoopFree Self Cleaning Litter Box?

Not really, aside from swapping out the disposable trays as required. The length of time you can leave it however will really vary depending on how many cats you have in your home and their own individual habits. We have two Maine Coon cats, and we found that we needed to change the boxes about every two weeks. For households with just one smaller cat, you may only need to change the box once a month.

What makes it better then a normal littler box for my cat? Or for me?

The ScoopFree Self Cleaning Litter Box is better for both you and your cat, if for no other reason then the health concerns. With conventional litter boxes, despite the fact that the cat will of course bury the waste they are still walking around in it inadvertently when they reuse the box. Which means they track that same material all around your house, not to mention breathing it in when you clean out the box.

Whereas with the ScoopFree, most of if not all of the waste material gets removed from the litter after use. Which leaves a clean surface for your cat to reuse, and the blue crystals do not track easily so there will be little to no mess outside of the box for you to clean up. And of course, with the disposable trays all you need to do is remove the old tray, dump it and slide in a new one. No handling of unhealthy litter and waste.

Is it safe for my cat?

Yes – the ScoopFree Self Cleaning Litter Box is 100% safe for your kitten or cat. The cleaning cycle does not activate till after your cat has left the box. And if for some reason a cat is in the box when the cleaning cycle is set to activate it will wait until the box is empty to start.

Remarks From Amazon Customers:

There are currently over six hundred reviews of the ScoopFree self-cleaning box at, with the overwhelming majority of them being positive. Here are some sample comments from Amazon customers:

The Good:

“I bought this as a replacement of my first automated litter-box, the Petmate Purrformat Plus XL. That one was awful, this one is great. “ – Joe via Amazon

“Overall we are really happy with the Scoopfree. It does have a 90 day money back guarantee and a 1 year warranty. It has been super easy to use and has already saved quite a bit of time in terms of scooping and cleaning. Our cat is really happy and no more meowing at the box, which is a great relief to us. We would definitely recommend it to everyone. “ – SM via Amazon

“Well, first off, my cat was a tad picky, so it took her a couple of weeks to get used to this thing. I’ve never used Fresh Step litter, which is WAYY different from the conventional clumping Tidy cat type litters….. Once I lured her in with her old litter, she’s accepted it and it’s great. My cat doesn’t always cover her poo’s, so my main goal with this was to get them covered automatically. This has worked great! “ – J. Freedman via Amazon

The Bad:

“Unfortunately, I was sold on the line that this box was odor free. It is not odor free!” – J. J. Boutall via Amazon

Here is a quick summary of some of the pro’s and con’s of the ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box:

  • Very hands off, which makes it safer and more sanitary
  • Disposable trays make clean up easy
  • Little to no litter tracking

  • The disposable trays and litter crystals do add up cost wise.
  • Lifetime of the trays varies widely

Overall, the ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box is a very good option as far as self cleaning litter boxes go. As long as you don’t mind paying the premium with the trays and litter crystals (though comparatively the costs in most cases will not come out to more then buying regular litter in the end). Given the added benefits like not having to handle or smell the cat litter, for most people any additional costs will be worth it.

Litter Robot LRII

Are you sick and tired of cleaning up all that disgusting cat litter?

Are you sick of spending money on fresh cat litter constantly? The Litter Robot LRII Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box can help you save time as well as a lot of money down the road.

With the Litter Robot II, you will no longer have to hand scoop or rake up after your cat. This unit automates nearly every part of the cat litter box cleaning process. Although the unit isn’t the cheapest automated litter box system out there, it is quite possibly the best. It is available in both black and beige colored versions.

Product Features:

  • Built in weight sensor: Detects your cat entering the Littler box with weight sensors, which initiates the timer for the cleaning process to begin. Seven minutes from the time your cat enters the box the Litter Robot initiates the self cleaning process.
  • Patented Litter Sift System: The litter sifting system cycles all the litter inside the globe sending the waste product out through the bottom of the machine while preserving the clean litter.
  • Waste deposit system: The waste which is sifted through the machine is deposited into a drawer at the bottom of the machine, which can be lined with a normal garbage bag, or even a small shopping bag for easy removal without unnecessary handling of the litter.
  • Works with any clumping litter: No special litters are required for the Litter robot machine to function. It can use any commercial clumping litter.

So How Does It Work?

  • The Litter Robot LRII uses its patented sifting process to thoroughly clean out the litter bed automatically after each time your cat uses it. With a large enough capacity that it can easily accommodate up to four cats per unit in your home. To start the automatic cleaning process, the Litter Robot starts a timer as soon as your cat enters the machine, and seven minutes from that point it starts its cleaning cycle.
  • The cleaning cycle consists of the whole globe rotating slowly to sift out all the clumps from the clean litter. And then depositing all the waste materials into the large capacity drawer located at the bottom of the unit. Which you can line with a kitchen bag or similar bag to make clean up easier, and completely remove the need to handle litter. Once it is done sifting, the machine returns to its original position and is ready to be used again.
  • The really nice thing here is that there are no rakes, or hoses or other moving parts which can jam or backup. Totally ruining the effectiveness of the unit, and making you handle the clean-up which it was supposed to prevent. The Litter Robot gets it right by keeping everything simple, which gives it a longevity far beyond most other automatic litter boxes.

What do I need to run the Litter Robot?

The Litter Robot LRII Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box uses a 12v DC plug, so all you need is an available outlet.

Do I need to do any maintenance on the Little Robot?

For the most part the only maintenance you need to do on the Litter Robot is to remove the waste drawer around once a week. (depending on how many cats you have) other then that you will probably want to clean the waste drawer once a month at least as it can start to pick up a slight odor. The same applies to the unit itself, but it normally takes a couple months before any cleaning is needed.

What makes it better then a normal litter box for my cat? Or for me?

  1. Health wise, the Litter Robot is far superior to a conventional litter box. Because if you think about it, with a conventional box all that waste stays in there till you remove it. Which means your cat is walking in it, and tracking it around the house. And also, developing a smell over time.
  2. With the Litter Robot all the waste is stored away underneath so your cat isn’t tracking it around the house. And lets be honest with ourselves, with how much simpler this is to clean then a normal box you will be much more inclined to clean it out on a more regular basis. So no smells, no mess and no need for your cat to walk around in their own waste to use the bathroom.
  3. Money wise it is also superior, since you will be using a lot less litter then with a normal litter box. Since, with the normal box when you change it out you have to dump everything out.
  4. With the Litter Robot the waste is automatically removed so there is no reason to remove all of the litter constantly. As long as you keep the litter level where it needs to be, and do a change out if it starts to pick up and odor you will have no problems. And save a lot of money in buying litter.

Is it safe for my cat?

Yes,  The Litter Robot LRII Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box is 100% safe for your kitten or cat. Even if the cleaning cycle starts while your cat is inside (assuming that it just happens that one cat goes in too soon after another) there is no moving parts or chemicals that could potentially harm the animal in any way. So they can easily jump out without worry.

Remarks from Amazon Customers:

Over 100 customers have left reviews of the Litter Robot II at, with the majority of them being very positive and the unit having an overall rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. Here are some examples of actual customer reviews at

The Good:

This is a GREAT product! It requires hardly any attention, uses clumping type litter and can be left On or Off. ” -PurpleDoggys via Amazon

I’ve had our Litter Robot for a little over a year, it’s running just fine and haven’t had any problems at all. ” – a Dmented lil Thori – Via Amazon

“My first one finally died. It actually still works electronically, it was part of the gear that wore out. Repeat, wore out from so much use! After 6 years that’s an amazing purchase, i think. I was laughed at by my friends for buying such an expensive litter box but it has made my life better. ” – Colorado127 via Amazon

The Bad:

Purchased this unit 7 months ago. Once I got our 2 cats to use it life was good. Unit easily cleans litter as described for a week before needing litter tray emptying. The problem is this thing relies on motors, power supply, and a circuit board to operate efficiently daily. When most cats urinate they keep they’re 2 front paws out of the box, occasionally some of that will spill over in the front. This has happened with our unit and destroyed the improperly sealed circuit board.Angela D – Via Amazon

Here is a summary of the overall pros and cons of the Litter Robot LRII:

  • Simple, Reliable operations
  • Minimal maintenance required
  • Eliminates all of the mess of cleaning a litter box
  • Very cat friendly even when cleaning
  • Will save you money on litter

  • A few people mentioned cats not standing fully in the box
  • Problematic design for claustrophobic cats

In conclusion, the Litter Robot LRII Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box may not be a little robot which follows your cat and cleans up like the name implies. But it comes the closest of the automatic litter boxes out there to being truly automatic and maintenance free, so if you want a box you can set and forget for a time this is a great choice.

CatGenie 120 Reviews

CatGenie 120 Self-Washing Self-Flushing Cat Box

Who wants to handle cat litter – let alone smell it? Nobody that’s who, we all love our cats but HATE the clean-up! Which is where the Cat Genie 120 Self-Washing Self- Flushing Cat Box comes into play. Rather then getting down on your hands and knees, cleaning out a filthy cat box this one cleans and takes care of itself.

Product Features

Here are some of the great features of the CatGenie 120:

  • Automatic Flushing System: The CatGenie can be operated manually, via a push of a button to start the cleaning process. Or alternatively, you can set it to a timer or even train your cat to activate the process on their own!
  • Washable Granules: Instead of your typical cat littler, the CatGenie uses 100% safe washable granules. Which you cat can safely dig around in and do their business, without all the unneeded mess.
  • SaniSolution: The SaniSolution cleaning cartridge decontaminates everything safely, and lasts for up to 240 washes before it needs replacement. While being safe for the environment at the same time!
  • Compact and Noninvasive Design: The CatGenie measures 19.25 inches wide, by 21 inches high. Taking up barely more space in your home then a typical decent sized litter box. Without the mess and hassle, and looks wise a whole lot more appealing.

So how does it work?

The CatGenie 120 Self-Washing Self-Flushing Cat Box is surprisingly simple in its operation.

  1. At the bottom of the box is what you would recognize as kitty litter, but in this case they are washable granules. And after you cat does it’s business, the liquids drain down through the granules and the solids remain on top
  2. Then the cleaning starts, the solids are scooped up and liquidized to be flushed out with everything else. After which fresh water fill the basin while the ‘GenieHand’ scrubs out the box, and cleans the granules.
  3. Using a combination of fresh clean water, and a cat safe sanitizing solution which is used to decontaminate everything leaving the box clean and safe for your cat to use again. And no, it does not get left wet after the cleaning.
  4. Inside the cat box is a hot air blower, kind of like the machines you see in restrooms which dries everything up after the cleaning is finished.

To set it up, you will need to hook it up to a cold water source, electrical outlet and have a drain nearby.

Do I need to do any maintenance on the CatGenie?

Not really, the granules which make up the base in the box are permanent and require no changing out over time since they get cleaned with every use. The cleaning solution however, does need to be changed out. Which you can do easily using the “120 SaniSolution” cartridges. Which are good for 240 washes, which has the added benefit of being biodegradable as well as recyclable.Making the CatGenie system not only good for your cat, but good for the environment as well. With none of the messy waste materials of using a normal cat box.

What makes the CatGenie 120 Self-Washing Self Flushing Cat Box better then a normal cat box with normal litter?

To answer this question, let’s do a quick comparison, of kitty litter versus the Cat Genie 120’s granules.

Kitty Litter: Is difficult to dispose of, requiring 2000 degrees of heat to process properly. Polluting landfills with approximately eight BILLION pounds of waste a year.

Cat Genie: Uses permanent granules.

Kitty Litter: Pollutes your home and your lungs with fecal matter and germ laden dust when you clean the box.

Cat Genie: No dust in the air. Instead, it disposes of waste it in the same safe manner as a regular toilet does.

These are just a couple of examples of why the CatGenie is not only safer for you, your family and your cat – but also, safer for the environment as well.

That’s great, but is it safe for my cat?

Yes, the CatGenie has been tested and proven to be 100% safe for cats to use. And that includes the SaniSolution that was mentioned earlier, it uses the same exact ingredients as veterinarians use to clean examination as well as operating areas.

The granules are safe if for some reason your cat should decide to eat them, they are totally non-toxic and are made out of natural ingredients with some safe synthetic components. So if they swallow it, it will pass through their system with no problems.

  • There is also hardly any odor when the cat uses it (a very big plus!).
  • It is also very affordable and user friendly – just about anyone can use it and set it up.

This makes it better then ordinary kitty litter containers in both price and service. Never fear cleaning up after your cat again! And another advantage of the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box is that the box is completely covered.

Here are some more of the pros and cons of the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box:

Pros: It is very easy to install! Works perfect if you know how to “roll” it correctly, but make sure you roll it all the way otherwise it might not work right. Once it is rolled correctly, just peek in and make sure all the gravel went through the vents and that none got stuck anywhere on top. You then just roll the litter box all the way down so the excess litter will go into the slot.

Cons: Not many really, but sometimes the gravel will come out of the side creases at the bottom. However, the amount is usually very little and it is generally fairly easy to clean up when it happens.

Conclusions: Here is a product that works! If you want a safe easy to use product with little clean up at an affordable price, the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box is a great choice. Its a very fun and affordable product with no mess involved. One of cheapest places to get this litter box online is at
